Overview

This is the culmination of my research which was collected over the course of my Jan Term class, Sociology of Music Subcultures. I have chosen to present my data in the form of a website because I felt that it would be the most understandable for the reader since the main portion of my project was the analysis of music videos from three subgenres in the metal genre. I wanted to represent as much of the metal spectrum as I could so I chose the subgenres of symphonic, heavy, and death metal. It was difficult to find bands that only represented one of these subgenres so I allowed some overlap, as a result there will be some discrepancy in the sound of each band, which I will address in their respective pages. Each of these subgenres is unique in their own way, to represent this I have chosen two bands from each subgenre to focus on for my analysis:

  • Symphonic:

    • Epica

    • Nightwish

  • Heavy:

    • Slipknot

    • Metallica

  • Death:

    • The Agonist

    • Legion of the Damned
